So I was having a conversation with Jodi, Jen and Semaj about the TV shows we used to watch as a kid...We started watching an episode of JEM and were seriously laughing so hard! LONDON RIOTS
So, on Thursday August 4th, 2011 a man named Mark Duggan was in a cab carrying a gun while the police were chasing him. Apparently, he was a known "gangster" from the North London area and they were after him for various reasons. It was said that he shot at the police and they fired back killing him with one shot to the chest. His family and friends were very upset and wanted answers from the police. They say he was a good person and loving father of four and would never commit the crimes he was accused of. They started a non violent protest and march because they wanted answers from the police about what had happened to him. Saturday, people in the Tottenham area decided to take matters into their own hands.... I completely understand his friends and family wanting answers but these people that began rioting and looting their own communities and neighborhoods was so appaling and uncalled for I cant even begin to understand it. It was mostly youths and people in their mid 20's who were doing this saying that the police dont respect them so they are going to prove that streets belong to them. They won, lemme tell you!! The original incident occured in North London and moved all the way to South London by Monday.
I rememeber the 92 Los Angeles riots very well cause I was living and going to school around the Pico and Robertson area at the time. Im not saying that what people did in the LA riots were right but the cause was a lot more understandable. This was totally not the case. This was KIDS who are obvioulsy ignorant and did'nt even know what they were fighting for. It seemed like each area that was affected was trying to compete with the other to see how much damage they could do. People blame the youth for the behaviour shown but lets get real....the parents are the ones to blame for the way they bring their kids up and for allowing them to even have the mentality that they had about this situation. I live in the "hood" in LA on Crenshaw and Adams, and yea...there are a lot of fucked up and disrespectful kids in my neighborhood as well as every other neighborhood in the world. The kids in the UK are not to fuck with though, they actually scare the shit out of me...especially the girls cause they have such a "I don't give a fuck" attitude about everything. If what happened in London these past few days happened in LA or anywhere else in the US these kids would be dead!!!!!!!! Im appaled at how this country handled this situation, and that they allowed these little fuckers to do what they did for 3 days while they just stood there and watched! I hope this was a major wake up call for London.....it really neeeds one!
